Beaded scarf, embroidered scarf, cloth of gold or simple woven goods: there is something distinctly female about how women address a length of fabric. Whether simply elegant, decorated or fringed, beaded or embroidered, the cloth serves the strength in the woman it adorns.

Bandanas to evening wraps, sarongs or pareos, dance shawls and piano shawls; hip scarves, and blankets: we all have scarves, and this bit of cloth transcends our differences. Worn as capes and wraps, handkerchiefs and headcoverings, we use them to comfort little ones, array our daughters, assure our families rest in warmth; as tokens for sons suddenly grown. We assume our drapes for community gatherings, add art to practicality for ordinary garb, and celebrate the somber, the subtle, the silly, and the wisdom within; every woman knows of what I speak.

The dynamic opportunities for womanly expression are endless.
The drape of the fabric, its gossamer buoyancy or its weighted sway gives rise to our spirit, our knowing, our many capabilities, skills, and arts. Whether that veracity and fluidity raises us to dance, or simply value secrets close to our hearts, a scarf of any length is a mantle of significance.
